The 'missing link' is a bit of a misnomer as it implies there is only one and in fact there are many. Our evolution from Apes is a Theory that appears to fit the facts as we know it so far. Finding other evidence that supports this theory only adds to the confidence in the theory but it can never 'prove it right' that is how Scentific theory works. It may be they other evidence is found that works against current evolutionary theory and so it would need to be changed to fit these new facts or even thrown out completely. As for resoning and morality I assume you refer to our sense or right and wrong. The simple answer that there is no physical evidence that our genetics are responsible for this directly. Some theories say that out thinking is 'emergent behaviour' that came from our increased brain function but I think that does us an injustice. Compassion, self sacrifice, and selflessness are traits which are often contrary to our species survival yet we still flourish.
So in short your question is not one that science can and maybe never answer. You may find your answer in Genesis.

evolution puts forth that humans and primates share a common ancestor. not that we came from monkeys as is typically assumed. as for reasoning and morality, monkeys have reasoning, even lab rats show reasoning to an extent. morality doesnt need to come from God. The Romans had laws and morals and apparently their gods werent real. read the Euthyphro by Plato if you doubt me. Morality and justice can be explained evolutionarily (i know its not a word).
Simply put
P1. Man thrives in society.
P2. Laws and morals are made to protect society.
C1. Laws and morals help Man thrive.
If that doesn't do it for ya then it was the FSM

humans are smarter than elephants because we have a highly sophistocated brain capable of doing complex functions, while the elephant's brain, as sophistocated in its own way, does not even compare to a human brain
intelligence is not dependable on size
