We're leaving for a 3 night cruise in 2 days, how formal is the dress for dinner? Does my husband need a suit jacket an tie, or just a tie, or just a button up shirt and dress pants? What about my 5 year old daughter? Princess dresses every night? Thanks!

We just went on the 3 night Disney Cruise a few months ago, and we only saw a few people who were really dressed up. I would say that the majority of men had nice pants with a nice shirt. Hardly any had ties on. As far as your daughter, thats up to you. Our 2 girls wore princess dresses every night. It was reallly great because each day, there are character photo ops and family photos. There's even a morning where 6 or 7 princesses come out all at once and you can go from one to the other and get your pictures done. The pictures are really great! Have fun- wish we were going again! You are going to absolutely LOVE it!

Disney is not very strict at all with their dress guidelines. On formal night, you usually see fewer people in "dressy" close as you do people in business casual type clothes.

I've never been onboard when Disney has turned someone away because they were not dressed properly, I've even seen people (adults and children) in shorts and t-shirts. Personally, I wouldn't go as far as the shorts and t-shirts, but that is just me.

As far as what to wear/bring, it really just depends what you want to pack. Most parents like to take the opportunity to get some pictures of their family in dress clothes (there are a lot of great photo opportunities) I prefer wearing pants and a button-up shirt for the regular nights. On formal nights I always wear at least a tie and depending on the cruise a suit jacket as well. I've never gone as far as the tux, except on a few occassions. For the ladies, I would say something similar would be fine. Either a nice dress, gown, pant suite, or nice pants with a dress shirt or something along those lines. For your daughter, a princess dress will work, a lot of the littler girls will be wearing those. Or something similar to what you will be wearing.

Again, Disney is far from strict with this, but I would still bring some nicer clothes.

Have a wonderful time, Disney is the best!

This is one of my pet peeves when it comes to cruising. Formal means formal. That is tuxedos for the gentlemen and evening gowns for the ladies. If you are one of those that chooses not to dress in formal attire, dine in one of many alternative dining venues and don't ruin the formal environment for the people who choose to full partake in their cruise experience.

What bothers me about this the most is that there are always other venues on the ship that serve the exact same fare on formal night. If you had a long day and want to wear jeans, great wear jeans, but go to the buffet. This is your vacation too.

Princess dresses on little girls are sweet and always accepted on a formal night. A jacket and tie is appropriate for semi formal evenings for the gentlemen and dresses for the ladies.

This is the standard set by cruise lines. I would say about half the people comply with the standard on a seven day cruise and less on a shorter cruise.
