I know there are a lot of people around the world who need help and I want to help them, but I want to be able to get to know the people im helping. I was thinking that there are christian missionaries and nuns in a lot of these countries who help to do work. Does anyone know where I can find a way to possible become a penpal with one of these people and send supplies through these people and in exchance, get a little personal info on the people im helping.

It might be as simple as looking toward your own community and neighborhood. I think it's a great idea to work with local agencies to help people.

For example, I tutor children at our local library, and it's been a great experience working with the same children every week. It's a good feeling to see them learning through the years.

I worked through my local volunteer center to find this and several other projects. They might be able to assist you in finding different agencies if you want to work outside your area, and with people of different countries.

I actually just returned from Tanzania, E. Africa. I have a non-profit group here in Michigan that works to help the people there. It is run 100% by volunteers, including myself. Anyhow, I met a man there and brought his name and address home with me because he would like to have a penpal. Feel free to email me and I could give you his details. www.throughourhands.org
