question about smoking?

Certain things actually have gotten better with time, and one of those thing,at least in the U.S.,is smoking.
In what aspect of modern life have attitudes changed in recent years? can you compare and contrast these changes, and also describe the old attitudes and new ones?

Attitudes towards gay people have improved. There seems to be a bit more acceptance in recent years.
