It depends upon how much you are making. The directions are just giving the proportions of the ingredients. A 'part" could be a shot (for one drink) or it could be a cup (3 cups mix to 1 cup tequila) or a gallon (3 gallons mix to 1 gallon tequila) if you're making 4 gallons. (which you might need if you are inviting me!)

It means that 75% of the mixture will be the margarita mix, and 25% is tequila. From that you determine how much you want to make. If you are making just a glass for yourself then yes you'd do 3 shots of mix and 1 shot teguila. If you're holding a block party then you'd up the servings and do 3 gallons mix and 1 gallon tequila, etc, etc, etc. Now if you really wanted to get twisted then you start playing around the percentages and go 50/50 mix vs. tequila. Whatever's clever right?

it can be. just depends on how much you are making. When I am just doing one serving for myself, I find my shot glasses are a great measuring tool. If making a pitcher, I know that my blender is able to hold 3/4 cup mix and 1/4 cup tequila plus ice to make a blended margarita.

pretty much anything that you can measure 3 parts of the mix and 1 part of the tequila is fine.

When I tended bar, the recipe for a margarita was 1 & 1/2 shot tequila, 1/2 shot triple sec and one shot lime juice (we used Real Lime.)

The three to one is just a ratio - parts does not mean shot. So if you want to use 3 gallons of tequila, be sure to only one gallon of triple sec.

I mention that we used to use Real Lime because this makes a tart drink - these days it's hard to get a tart margarita...most places use sweet and sour.

I prefer the tart.

It means for how ever you are measuring the mix, you add one equal part of tequila. In other words if you use 3 CUPS of mix, you add ONE CUP of mix. If you want to make is using a shot glass than for every 3 shot glasses of mix you add 1 shot glass of tequila. If you were using 1/2 cup, you would use 1/2 cup 3 times of mix and 1/2 cup one time with tequila.

Here's my take. It really depends on the glass that you are using. Lets say the volume of the glass you are using is 120mils (4oz). Divide it by 4 and you get the quantity for 1 part.
1 part = 40mils.
Other factors to consider is the amount of ice you are using.
A typical rock glass can take 9-10oz of liquid without ice. Add ice to the brim and the maximum liquid volume drops to 4-5oz. An average sized martini glass or margarita glass can take up to 3oz of liquid.

Here's a nice recipe:
1 1/2oz Tequila (pref Gold)
1/2 oz Cointreau
1oz Freshly Squeezed Lime Juice (Always taste before using)
Dash of Sugar Syrup -Optional (To cut away some tartness)

It can mean 3 shots, cups, etc. It's just a ratio of 3 to 1 in whatever you are mixing. If I was making enough for a party I could use 3 gal to 1 gal and it would taste the same.

it more is speaking to a ratio. i could be a 1/2 shot of tequila and then 1 1/2 shots of mix, for example. it could also mean a cup of tequila and 3 cups of mix. it just depends on how much you want.

It means for every 3 ounces of made margarita mix you will need to add one ounce of Tequilla. So, if you are going to make a 16 ounce Margarita, you would take everything and mulitply it by four.

12 ounces of Margarita mix + 4 ounces of Tequilla = One really nice (and potent) Margarita. Don't forget to pour it over some ice and salt the rim. Good Luck and don't forget to designate a driver!

Yes it could. If you're making one drink, then yes, if you're making a whole bunch, just do 3 cups mix, 1 cup teq. And so on. Though I always do half and half, hehe
