Summertime fishing is far better because you can get out on the boat and catch way more fish than you will ever get by fishing through the ice.

Summer time is best then because freshwater fish tend to reproduce during the off season, especially the salmonoid species. There is usually a closed season for these game fish from September to February or even later depending where you go fishing. On the other hand, the larger pike are usually caught during cold weather. Fly fishing, the ultimate freshwater fishing, is confined mainly to spring/summer months for obvious reasond!

I prefer the summer, and in a stream. The reason is because I refuse to freeze my royal sweet butt for this. As well I don't mind going fishing in a boat rather than just sit on top of a rock or cliff and just reel the fish in. By the way just a little tip for the type of bait to use. Believe it or not, I use sardines. How I found this out to be effective was by accident. You see as a kid, my mom, rest in peace, gave me sardines to have as an appetizer. I despised it like a passion, and so what i did was just took a tin can of sardines, opened it up, cut the sardine in 3 and attatch it to my hook as bait, and finally, just fling the line. In no time at all I was catching lots of fish.

during the winter months when the water is cold, fish have a very slow metabolism........meaning they do not have to eat near as much to keep their bodily functions going.

during the summer when the water is warmest their metabolism is very high..........meaning they have to eat more to keep their bodies going, especially after the spawn when they are wore out.although the spawn is a little before summer.

i am not saying fish will not eat in the winter months, because they do.i have caught fish with ice on the water.
i am just saying fishing is better in the summer than winter.

any time is alwase the best time to fish. if you are a true fisherman like me you will be fishing all the time not only in the summer but in the winter too. I live in denver so it snow alot over here, i dont go snow boarding or sking, so i like to go ice fishing. the best time to fish is in the summer because there are more fish out and they are more active, but there are also fish out in the winter not a munch but it is still fun. so any time is alwase the best time.

Your missing the BEST times to fish, spring and fall. During this time of year the fish are very active due to spawning and feeding up for winter. If you want to catch lots of quality fish, spring and fall are the times to go.
