You say you can believe in something intangible and unprovable without evidence? Okay, go ahead.
I'll believe something is true that IS within the realm of the provable: Prove to me that you're not a pedophile. By _your_ argument I can believe you are a sick pervert until you disprove it.
If you don't like that burden of proof, then why do you use if to rationalize belief in something unprovable? The lack of evidence that makes me reject your "god" myth is the same lack of evidence that makes me assume that you aren't a criminal. Until you prove a "god" exists, it doesn't. I am not "disbelieving in god" any more than you disbelieve in Thor or Asatru.
And here's a thought which has probably never entered your head: Admitting that you can't prove there is a "god" does _not_ prevent you from believing in it. Admitting you can't prove a "god" exists only prevents you from forcing your religion where it doesn't belong, like schools and government.
But that's the reason, isn't it? Most godbots _want_ to rape children with their religion in public schools and use religion to justify it. Maybe you are a sick puppy after all....

No, we don't believe that not believing in god will make him go away. What we believe is that if god exists, there has to be some proof of that existance. Show me the existance without quoting bible or people who said they saw/heard/felt god and I will believe.
The cities exist, they are seen, they are material, you can visit there and live there. They are universally felt. You don't have one person who can not feel/see the actual existance while another not realize the existance. With god, those who believe, believe with faith (not proof) and those who want proof, don't get the proof, therefore don't believe...
Frankly, you'd not hear from us if you didn't force religion down our throats via public prayers, religion in schools and various legislation.

The City of LA is proveable. We can test whether or not it exists and collect evidence about it. This is not true of a deity. Do you believe in Thor? NO?!? Well, your reasons for not believing in Thor are the same reasons I don't believe in any of the other gods. There is absolutely no evidence.
Also, get the misconception that we are atheists because of misfortune or anger at god right out of your head. A person who "denies" god's existence because of anger isn't an atheist--s/he is an angry theist.

These kind of questions are exhausting. We don't not believe in a God because we "want him to go away." If we wanted him to go away, that would mean we believe in him. I know that people like you just can NOT grasp the concept of not believing in a god, but trust me, it has nothing to do with wanting a non-existent thing to go away. Your examples of Los Angeles and California are flawed, because you KNOW they exist. A closer comparison would be like me asking you if you don't believe in pink unicorns simply because you want them to go away.

Do theists believe that simply believing in god is going to validate him or make him true? Lets say I live in Connecticut let's say I believe in the city of Gorgistanigstavilopistagirgofrgsthip does that make it a real place?

The existence of a state is a verifiable fact.
God is NOT.
Doesn't matter whether I think the state is there or not, just like it doesn't matter whether you think god is there or not. There is no god and your belief will not change that.
My life's circumstances did not lead me to abandon belief. Logic and intelligence did.
I never blamed god for anything -- god is not my personal whipping boy as so many believers seem to think. When I suffer loss I deal with it and move on, as grown ups do.

I guess the same can be said for some people not believing in science (especially evolution).
Some people do not believe in it with the hope that it will be invalidated by not believing in it.
Except, there is evidence to support evolution. Hmmm. That does complicate things!

Good point. Just because a person doesn't believe in God doesn't mean HE doesn't exist.
