I claimed '1' when I was in the military, but at my current job, claiming '1' has made me owe taxes. I want to make sure that I don't owe next year!

Well, you've answered your own question. Claim "0". This will result in more taxes being taken out of each check.

Claim 0 exemptions, you'll pay more taxed each week, but you may get some back at the end of the year.
