I have been given a wonderful oppertunity to work at a Tibetan Buddhist Monastary in Northern Californa. I'm from the East Coast, born and raised in Massachusetts, so It would mean leaving my family, and friends, and going out to find myself. I would have food, shelter, and work. The pay is very minimal, as it is a voulenteer job, but the experience could be life changing. I'm too scared to take the make the next move..What should I do.?????

what are you worrying about? it's not like it's a cult or anything. besides, you can still call and visit your family and friends; they can visit you too. it won't be forever either.

As someone who studies Buddhism, I can tell you that is a great opportunity, many of my friends and I look forward to do something like that. I suppose you have been studying too, and you are aware of the way of life in a monastery. How many months you will be staying there? Maybe a test period of one or two months would be helpful, before you make a final decision. How does your family feel about it? Support is key in this situation. Will you be able to return to your current life (school, work) once you are back? Give it a good thought, talk to your lama or dharma teacher if you have one and do some research. Best wishes from a dharma friend!

Go for it! Have you talked to the monestary to see if they could be of assistance with food and shelter. They may be willing to accept your services in change. I think it would be a once in a lifetime opportunity that would be hard to pass up. Follow your heart, your family and friends will support you if they truly care about your needs.

If it is in your hear to do so, then go. You just need to exercise some faith that you will be able to provide for yourself once you arrive. I will say that it is hard being away from family and friends, but you just might make some there if you try. This is ultimately a decision that no one can make but you, so good luck.

It sounds like a very enlightening experience. But just make sure you're ready for such a change, especially with the distance from your home.
