Over the summer of last year, my family and I saw cat coming around our yard with its kitten. After a while the kitten was the only cat showing up. It would come to our door so we would put food out for it and it would eat it. A few months went by and the cat would come sometimes and sometime it wouldnt. It dissapeared for a while and then recently came back. We felt bad for it and let it in since it is very cold outside. But now the cat will not eat anything. It actually starting not eating the food we left out for it, even if it was cat food. It would go over, eat a little and then leave. Now thats its at home with us, it wont eat or drink. I just sits there or will walk around a little. What do you suggest for us to do? We dont want to be stuck with a big vet bill if we take it there.

ok...first, does the cat lookk like it is starving? how long has it been inside and not eaten anything or dank anything? do you have a can of tuna in water? open it and squeeze the juice out of it and offer the juice to the cat. also offer it some room temp milk, not much, just enough to see if it will drink it. if neither of these things work...(oh yeah, you could try to offer it one egg yoke) then take kitty to the vet. the money you spend on kitty will be rewarded with the love kitty returns to you. if you dont want the responsibilty of a vet bill...take kitty to your local no kill animal shelter. good luck with him. here is a link that may help.

I think you made the decision to bring the cat inside, So you are now stuck with the responsibility of owning a cat. You could try giving the cat different kinds of food try some wet food. Now I don't know when you brought this cat inside but if it was recently the cat may be depressed. And time should fix this problem.

Also since this was a stray cat I would recommend you do take it to the vet and get it De wormed, and vaccinated. If you don't do this now you will probably run into much larger vet bills later!!

Any cat that is a stray and has never been vaccinated is at high risk for feline leukemia and other diseases. A leukemia test will run you around 25 dollars. Other than that, I think you should take it to a shelter if you didn't want to have to take care of any vet bills. It's going to die otherwise for sure. A cat that won't eat has got a serious health issue going on.

Maybe it belongs to someone else -- sometimes cats have several 'homes' where they stop and eat, and hang out. But they still have one real home, and will react badly if taken away. Does it try to leave your home, or ever wander around like it's looking for someone?

Since you probably can't let it out to wander around again until spring, take it to a low-cost clinic, like the ones run by the Humane Society, to make sure it isn't sick.

it could be any number of serious feline illnesses, including feline diabetes, which my cat has, or just something wrong with one of its teeth. it needs to see a vet, which for just a diagnosis shouldn't cost too much, if it will cost too much to treat, the vet may know someone who can take it in, or just take it to the shelter, please don't let the cat suffer though, at the very least, get it to a shelter.

How long is been? maybe the kitten is just getting use to it... the vet bill wont be that expensive.
