Isn't that a personal thing?
For me He is very needed.
For others He is not needed.
They have the oh well that's the way it is attitude.
I have met people from all walks of life.
Some are very opposed to God.
Some are very dependent on God.
Some are in between.
Some have a religion and they are happy with that.
Some want more than just a far away pie in the sky idea of God.
They want Him Closer.
I do know one thing, when cancer comes a knocking, God gets to be a very good idea. All of a sudden you want Him very close.

God is not necessary. There is no phenomenon I have ever seen that required the existence of a supreme deity for an explanation.

Here are a few reasons that I cannot sort into any order of importance as they are all important in their respective areas.

God loves you, you are quite literally His child in the spirit as much as you are your parents' child in the flesh. Without Him, your spirit would not have existed to inhabit the body your parents gave you in birth.

As a loving parent, God sent you here to learn some very important things and give you some important opportunities you could not otherwise have had. All things to prepare you for future opportunities to occur after this life.

God is behind the very forces of nature that hold the earth in its orbit and keep man from falling off. He is behind the forces that hold the atmosphere in so that we have air to breathe. He is behind the forces that cause water to evaporate and then rain.

He is behind the forces the brought your very life into existence. The biological force, that from the beginning, made it so that both plant, animals, and man could reproduce.

There is nothing that we have that He did not give to us. That we often corrupt the knowledge and the inventions that He gives us, that is true. None the less, all things and all knowledge come from Him.

Necessary is not the word to describe God.. That doesnt even make sense.

We NEED Jesus because he saves us from our sins..

But I think you are trying to say necessary as in, we need to believe in him for a certain reason... Which we dont... We dont need a security blankey, we dont need a reason to live, we dont need to know what happens after we die...

These are reasons poeple say that people believe in GOd... well, all the christians I know were having the time of there life and partying and friends and booze and whatever else when they got saved... My husband happened to go to a church once, he was in a band, had 2 cds, we lived together, everything. He got saved that night, came home, got rid of over 700 cds plus 20 plus dvds, and we stopped living together until we got married a month later, on a whim, because it was right...

Doesnt sound like he needed a blankey to me? What about you?

God is necessary because he is the creator. Without God, you do not exist.

We wouldn't exist without God so if existing is necessary then God is necessary.

If you are to know the source of your origins, you need to know God.
I don't be that we began after a BIG BANG. That would imply that you are of no importance and that you serve no purpose. If you believe that about yourself, then fine. I believe that there is more to life than just being here. I want to know more, God is the source.
I refuse to think of myself as an accident. Do you?
Life revolves around a circle of existence. Birth, life, death, and beyond. our brains are limited and must learn things piece by piece. In order to learn, you must be willing to learn. If you are willing to learn, who will teach you? Will you trust the words of another man who is also confused liked you? That's aprime example of blind leading the blind. I for one humble myself to accept what God has to tell me. At times I slip and fall. We are only human. But I believe that my quest will take me into the 'beyond' portion of the circle after death.

God in every religion is used because people need something to beleive in, because they lack the understanding that we ourselves have the power to make anything possible, and we are in fact in control of this universe. People like to have the comfort of beleiving that God is in control of everything, and as long as you beleive and do his will, everythings gonna be ok in the end. And God is also someone to blame for the situations going on in the world, because no one likes to blame themselves, and the human race in general for every action, when in fact, that's all it is- someone decided to make this choice, and this is the result of it.It's easier to say that God is in control, and it's all part of his plan.

1) Like it or not, the Universe must have a cause. If it didn't, if time was infinite in every direction, entropy would increase to the extent that life would be impossible.

2) We are sentient. That's got to count for something.

However, you can't use God to explain away anything you can't understand.
