You can pursue many routes... you can go into the military where you will get thousands of hours flying complex aircaft at the taxpayers expense however there is no guarantee that you will be accepted as a pilot... you can go to an aviation college that has a major specifically for commercial pilot traing in which you get a 4 year degree and earn your licenses.... Finally, you can go to any college and do your flight training on the side... the important thing is that you have a college education as many airlines have this as a mandatory requirement for an interview... Also, understand that you will make close to the poverty level early on in your flying career... you will probobly want another field that you can fall back on if you dont make it in with the airlines.

Your best bet is to join the Armed Services where you can get experience. One big problem is that you need 20/20 vision to qualify. You need training in MULTI-ENGINE planes. You need probably a couple thousand hours to even qualify to work for a commercial airline. It's expensive to get experience in flying a plane, especially a multi-engine plane. (which is why I suggested the Armed Services: free training). About 90 percent of commercial airline pilots served in the Armed Services. I provided a link as an additional resource. Good LUCK! Don't give up your dream if that's what you truly want to do in life!

Just get a college degree in anything. I'm a commercial pilot and my college degree was music performance!!

For starters, go to a flight school and inquire about becoming a private pilot. That's the first step. After you get your PP-ASEL (private pilot, airplane single-engine land), get your instrument rating and then your commercial license. At that point, work on your multi-engine rating and then your ATP.

Get your private pilots license
Get you instrument rating,
Get you multi engine endorsement
Get your commercial endorsement
Get thousands of flying hours on different types of planes
Apply at commercial airline

You could possibly get some of these through armed forces.
