the first answerer answered the wrong question i think!

in terms of energy, boxing takes the most out of those three- then wrestling, then football. i know every football player will argue with that but i have done all three and it is not even close.

think about it- how long does the typical football play last? then you have time in between plays to catch your breath.

try to even shadow box for three minutes rounds- 12 times. I assure you if you are moving your feet and throwing punches you will be spent! now, through in the fact that you are getting punched the whole time! if you stand flat footed for a period of time you will be knocked out.

i use boxing for my cardio workout- i don't actually get in the ring, but in my opinion boxing absolutely takes the most energy.

i have played in all three sports. Wrestling (I hope you mean real wrestling and not WWE) is by far the most physically demanding sport of all because you are basically grapling and fighting for 3 rounds of 3 minutes. I would compare practices to military boot camp for those who never wrestled, they turn up the heaters really high, and some cant eat or drink so they can make weight. It doesnt matter how good of shape you are in, by the end of the last round you are wore out. Next is Boxing, the training is tough and so are the matches but nothing compared to wrestling. Last is Football because each play lasts only 3-5 seconds, then there are 30-40 seconds of rest. Yes practice can be hard at times, especially after a loss, but I have never done anything in my life that took as much energy as Wrestling did.

Kevinm is right I looked this up last week because the guys I work with were saying that this sport and that sport were the most demanding I think when most people read what these experts from the Olympic comity who have seen every athlete on the planet I guess they should know but there are people out there who will disagree with the experts I have know en this my whole life I played football and I have a brother who was a very good wrestler from Pennsylvania state runner up to the Olympic champion football does not even come close and neat her gives you the rush that boxing does I love all sports but when it comes to boxing there is nothing close because no other sport lets you get hit in the head with a baseball bat for 3 minutes and gives you a minute to get your self together and do it again I wish that anyone who ask this question could experience this just one time from the time you enter the arena until the end of the fight you have never felt so a live in your life and I have done a lot of things in my life

I've done them all high school football, boxing, high school wrestling and jujitsu.

The boxing is the most grueling. There is nothing quite as demanding as having a boxing match with someone with equal skill and talent. In boxing if you try to take time off you pay the price.

Wrestling and Jujitsu can be very tough. I had a jujitsu tournament one time where I could barely stand from exhaustion at the end of the tournament.

Football practice can be hard but not same level as Boxing or Wrestling.

i know every average male will say football because they have not done the other two- but its either boxing or wrestling- i go with boxing.
Football- you play hard for ten seconds then rest for about 35 seconds or more- unless there is a 60 yard or more play- you aren't running for a long period of time without a short break. do you know why american football is boring to much of the rest of the world? they feel it is too slow!!! soccer take much more energy than football- and believe me i hate soccer- its hard for me to admit that.
that leaves wrestling and boxing. i would listen to either side of the arguement but simply try to shadow box for twelve rounds while moving your feet the way boxers do- that is very hard to do. have you ever seen the end of a fight when both fighers cant even hold there hands up? wrestling is tough because when you are on the ground you have to use all of your muscles to get free- but it just wasn't as exhausting for me to wrestle as it seems to be when boxing.

This is why people are dumb... I was actually on a football and wrestling team an before that i used to box... wrestling is slightly more tiring than football... in boxing when you're tired you can jab and keep a person at bay... football you have reps and rests. wrestling requires you to actually wrestle a person for three minutes straight without rest and that just on the high school level... if your oponent is more conditioned than you will lose. its funny how quick people are to answer this qustion and what their explanation is.

I have done all three. Football is not the correct answer. You can rest in between plays. Substitutes, Offense comes off the field and defense comes on. Wrestling you can tie up and take rests. Boxing on the other hand there are just in between round rests. there are no teammates to rely on. If you take time off you are gonna get hit. Boxing takes the most energy. you cant drop your hands or you will get knocked out.

Boxing. I've participated in both. Played football at the high school level. No where near as close to boxing.

I asume you're talking H.S. or college wrestling so i'm gonna say wrestling..pretty much constant motion until the ref resets the wrestlers and you're using strength and that takes alot of energy. football you have time after the play to reset and catch your breath. and boxing for the most part your bobbing and weaving the most exertion comes from throwing punches.

football without a doubt. in wrestling and boxing, there are timed breaks. not in football. im an all-district and all-state linebacker in texas, and believe me, its hard work. its the most tired and most work ive ever done. but it is absolutely worth it. i once played 142-146 plays in one game. i play both ways, RB and OLB. in my experience, football takes the most because its constant, nonstop play. and when you put every ounce of energy, muscle, willpower into stopping the other guy, thats hard work. hope it helps
