smuggled contraband cleverly hidden inside the vehicle would you be allowed to keep it or get a reward for turning it in or get arrested for possessing it? I'm thinking either stolen jewels or drugs.

If you bought the item from a gov't auction, the drugs would have to be turned over, but if you find anything else of value, jewels and or money (cash), and like I said lyou bought it from a seized gov't auction, then you will be allowed to keep the money. It happend here in Tx a few years ago. This old man bought a small car from a gov't auction and had problems with the gas tank, and he took it to a mechanic and the mechanic dropped the tank, and located a large steel box in the tank containing $150,000.00 in cash in it and turned it over to the police. The man took the police to court, and the judge awarded the money to the old man, since he bought the vehicle "as is" from the gov't.

It depends on the circumstances which you bought it and on exactly what you found. If you bought the boat at a government auction and the items you discovered are legal to own - then this is your lucky day.

Otherwise you need to contact the local police and report what you found. (If for no other reason - CYA.)

Honesty is the best policy under any circumstances. Call the local police department and ask for a Sgt. to come to your home and discuss it with them and go from there.

When you buy the vehicle, you buy whatever is concealed inside it. If it turns out to be drugs, you'd best turn that over to the cops. If it's anything else, enjoy it 'cause it's yours.

I'd love to find a stash of hash or coke. My lips would stay sealed.

Better turn it in, or otherwise you could wind up in jail.
