Hi there,
My husband and i took our honeymoon trip there last year and it was amazing. We are from mn, and so with connecting flights and such pry 5 - 6 hours total. There is so much to see and do there. Make sure you see Old San Juan - the fortresses and history are amazing. The beaches are phenominal and you simply can't miss the Rainforest- beautiful. Also, we stayed another week at a smaller island off of puerto rico called Vieques which had the friendliest hosts, most beautiful white sandy beaches and laid back relaxing atmosphere you could ask for. You should also plan a day trip to Culebra Island and hit Flamenco beach - you will not be disappointed! Good luck and good choice.

OoohWee!! If you seriously wanna hang out in Puerto Rico, you have decided the best time to think about it. I mean it's practically March, so summer is gonna be near the corner any time now. Well, since you live in Atlanta & I for a fact stayed in GA for almost a year, so I would know. The plane flight will take in approx. 3- 4 hours. The people here are like any other particular person you may find around the world. But here we have all kinds of positive people: like if you to party alot we call these individuals "pariseros" (partiers) or if there are people with a really good "bembe" (the way we say it's alright 'round here) then those persons can be called "rumberos". For the food, oh maaan, the food here is great, & yeah, we basically have an american tradition of american meals, but we also have the best food that no other island can compare. We cook a variety of dishes like: Rice & Beans (practically that is our main course along with any type of meat), the very best Seafood & some restaurant near a coastal view & some of the most uniquely made fried foods that you would of never thought to be THAT good. Of things to look out for or beware of I'm not sure you really should have much fear because our situations are most likely to be common anywhere. If you wanna take a trip, now's the time to start making your decision into how much longer do you wanna wait to have a great time in the sunny, warm & cool tropical island of Puerto Rico. So, start making your bags, pick out the best swimsuits to take with you, tell your job in advance that you wanna take a vacation & get over here already.

In fact I'm gonna make you a deal... if you come over soon, I come become your special tour guide in a reasonable price, but if you hesistate into flying over you make me irritated & deny your travel agency to fly here. So hurry up & come on down to the REAL paradise in the Caribbean. Hahaha, ok take care & think about it!

You have many direct flights from Atlanta to San Juan , especially with Delta haha so travel time is around 3 hours. People like to eat a lot of fast food just like in the US(mcdonalds, BK, subway, pizza hut, KFC...). You should always have in mind that PR is very humid-hot and always bring shorts, sleeveless tanks, etc etc, Just a light jacket for when you go to a restaurant at night or something. Also the Sun is very damaging here so bring a good sunscreen with a lot of SPF(45-50)

well, you didn't specify where are you coming from but from miami is 2 hours and a half. I recommend you eat seafood fritters at the beach, best place to go is in pinones (long road full of kiosks where they sell fritters, fried appetizers) or you can also go to the kiosks in luquillo or in my hometown at las croabas in fajardo, Puerto Rico. From fajardo you should take a boat trip to culebras and vieques, considered one of the best beaches of the world, i think you can find that out in travelchannel.com , also near fajardo is "el yunque" , the famous tropical rain forest, take comfortable shoes and be ready to hike up the mountain for like 2 hours until you reach the peak where you will see a beautiful view of the scenery worth the trip, there's also some small waterfalls where you can dip in so take your bathing suit and camera to take lots of pictures! also, don't miss the west side of puerto rico, there's other nice beaches and lighthouses to visit.
I HIGHLY recommend you try in the morning mayorca with a cup of coffee in la bombonera restaurant in old san juan or pan pepin, or panaderia espana which is right across the street from the airport. mayorca is like a sweet bread, i love it! old san juan has some nice restaurants, one of the most famous ones i believe is dragonfly. Also, don't miss the "pinchos de tiburon" its like shark skews or just any type of "pinchos" are good, you can also order them at the kiosks. for nightlife, i recommend old san juan and condado. you should visit both spots during the day and night. there's some good sushi restaurants like orange blossom if you like sushi. and go to plaza las americas, you won't regret it. i think it's the biggest mall in the caribbean, there's so many kinds of stores, take a lot of money because you will want to shop everywhere once you get to plaza las americas, oh! and when you go to that mall, you will need a whole day and stop for lunch at "el fogon" and order churrasco with rice and beans and plantains, you won't regret it either!!! ok, i just gave you the best advice ever for when you go to puerto rico, enjoy your trip. if any questions email me @ chiquiboricua@hotmail.com, either way let me know once you come back and let me know how was it!!
good luck..oh and stay away from la perla! and don't forget to grab the "que pasa" magazine once you arrive at the airport, that might be helpful and theyre free (www.qpsm.com)

...Facts about PR. It's an Island in the Caribbean...little over two hrs flight South of Miami. Hot and humid as heck. Beaches are beautiful but trashy...in fact the entire Island could use some cleaning up.... People are nice but loud... Drive like "locos" and show no courtesy on the road. Good food but greasy and fattening... Best food: Rice and beans with cocorokies and "tostones" HIGH CRIME! Watch you wallet and whatever you do, do not live anything in plain view in your car of Hotel. Have a nice trip!

Do not listen to the Morons they obviously dont know what they are talking about..... remember crime happens anywhere and everywhere you just have to be alert to your surroundings just like anywhere you go to, eyes wide open.
Puerto rico is a beautiful place to travel too, GREAT FOOD, very Kind people... lots of activities, shopping etc etc, there's lots of Major shops like in the big cities Ex: MACYS, SEARS, JCPENNEY, WALGREENS, SAM's Clubs, etc etc
many people speak english so that makes it easy for you in case you ever get lost. the beaches are beautiful .. its just a wonderful place to visit.
you'll see for yourself.
