I suggest asking your friends and relatives with kids for names of the babysitters they use. The next step is to check with your church and the youth group, very often they keep lists of teens willing to babysit and do other 'odd jobs' like pet walking, snow shoveling etc.
You could check with the local girl scout office for the names of the local leaders, check with those leaders for names of responsible teens.
You could also check with your local high school for names of responsible kids looking for work.
If you are in Las Vegas on vacation, check with the hotel. They probably provide baby sitting services.

There are a tons of ways to find a good babysitter. Talk to some family friends, see who they use and give the person a call. Try setting up a little interview to make sure that he/she is a reliable babysitter. I wouldn't hire anyone under 14 years old. Also set up some rules for the babysitter. Good Luck!

If you're going there on vacation and you're staying a big hotel, ask them. While it's no guarantee, hotels usually keep lists of babysitters that have worked for customers. Believe me, if a babysitter was bad, the hotel would hear about it.
No matter what, ask for references. I'd suggest, in fact, asking 3 or so come by for a quick "interview." Pay them 1 hour for showing up.

The best way is through word of mouth. You can't really trust some stranger who advertises babysitting services b/c there are too many sickos in the world. Ask friends, coworkers and neighbors if they know of anyone - a friend of the family, older relative, or niece perhaps - who might be interested.
If you can't find one through word of mouth, another idea is to go to your local college and post an ad in the elementary education department.
