I live out in the Country and there is a horse trail riding business right a cross from me,so I can see everything.
I have just noticed that one of the mares ( who is fully pregnant) is being used as riding horse.
I think that you would have to be a total SAVAGE to ride the poor thing!
......A safe guess is that this savage who is sitting on her is at least over 150 lbs or 69kg or 10.7stone .....Very disturbing.
Does anyone know if this is common, normal stuff and not unusual?
And if this is totally unacceptable should i call the cops ???????.

I am fortunate that I live in a state where it is a felony to abuse poor innocent animals.

I don't want to make enemies with the neighbours...what should I do?

Pregnant mares can be exercised. I wonder how often she is being used and how hard (many stables today only permit walking because of insurance reasons). Is the horse prone to fonder because she is too heavy? This could be dangerous too if all she is doing is eating and getting fat. There are many questions here that would be asked before considered abuse.

My advise call a Society that does Rescues of horses (see web -close to you)-they usually have Investigators who can check it out. And they will try to work with owner if there is a problem. If the owner doesn't want help and the horse is being abused---they will report and have more pull to get the animal out of there more quickly. Otherwise it can be a long drawn out affair.

You are to be commended for worrying about this horse

If what you have observed , you see as cruelty,

i would in the first place contact the RSPCA
or the equivalent SPCA, animal welfare society ,where you are .

They will come out and see check on the problem,
and if cruelty, abuse or a felony is involved . ,

they will call in a Vet & the police,
and get this sorted .

The mare may ,have to be taken to a place of safety.
And the owner may be prosecuted or cationed
Your name, should not need be disclosed

It certainly seems like cruelty to me ,
to ride a heavily pregnant mare is not right .
we all have a duty of care, for the welfare of animals .

Thank you for caring

Pregnant mares can be lightly excercised up to a certain week while carrying a foal, but I think that means hand-walking, not being ridden by a heavy person. A safe guess would be to call the police and if there's nothing wrong, then you didn't lose anything, and if it's not okay, you helped an innocent animal.

Look up The " Animal Defense League " in your State or County and pose this question to them. It would seem to me that the owners would be "guarded" in the mares condition as the fold it seems to me would be an asset. I personally don't have the appropriate answer but, try calling some veterinarians and pose the question to them before calling in an abuse accusation, for as you stated, your not wanting to un-necessarily breed bad feelings with your neighbors. I hope this helps.
GOD BLESS/GOOD LUCK!!

I feel you should contact the local SPCA and police dept. If you are concerned with making enemies don't worry about it, you can remain anonymous. It is peace of mind to you and potentially saving the life of an animal. If you are feeling the way you do, your instinct is probably correct.

It's a good idea to get advice from a vet. Get more info and then you'll know what to do.

You can report anonymously, and no doubt there are lots of people who could've reported them, so don't worry. Good luck. I reported a cruelty case once, and I'm glad I did. It made the local paper, and the owners were banned from keeping more pets, but I hadn't given my name, so no-one knew it was me.

Call your local vet or SPCA. Don't do anything except pose a question at first. If they tell you it is not good than the horse people should be reported. If they say it is than you have learned something about horses.
