Miner's Riddle?

At the end of a long day in the mines, friends Tim and Jim face each other and say goodbye until morning. After they go their separate ways, Tim takes out a handkerchief and wipes his face, even though it wasn't dirty. Jim, who values cleanliness just as much as Tim, doesn't wipe his face, although it is very dirty. Why?

Jim looks at Tim and since Tim isn't dirty, he assumes he isn't either. Tim looks at Jim and sees that he is dirty and assumes he is as well

The miners did not have a mirror. They looked at each others faces when they came out , TIM seeing JIM's face to be really dirty assumes his face is as well and so cleans his face with a hankerchief despite TIM'sface is clean.

JIM on the otherhand, assumes his face to be clean after seeing TIM's face to be clean, although his face is dirty and so does not go for the hankerchief

Because Tim sees that Jim's face is very dirty so he wipes his own face and Jim sees that Tim's face isn't dirty so he thinks his isn't either.
