My cat, as a kitten was rotten as in mean. But, now if you barely touch him, he will attack you. I think something is wrong with him. Because he growls. He always wants to go outside. He gets really agressive. He doesnt eat alot even when I set out a lot. We took him to the vet, but they didnt know what was wrong? What do you think?

YES THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG. Your kittie has a reason for doing what its doing. As responsible pet owners, it is up to us to figure out what or why. It looks like you took the first step by going to the Vet, and putting this question on the internet. What is the history of this animal. Has it been abused, or ruffed up as a kitten? Does he seem to have any broken bones or other alements? Has he been an outside cat (wild) for a period of his life? Is he altered? Answers to some of these questions mite pull you in the right direction. I do know that a neutered cat is much less aggresive than a natural cat. Good luck and please give him some time and patience. He could turn out to a very good friend. Another thing, the less he strays outside, the sooner he may settle down, not to mention the safer he will be.

well, if you think a kitten is rotten, maybe theres something wrong with you. If you were scared of the cat when it was a baby and treated it like it was the devil and didnt pay much attention to because of it's kitten temperment, then you probably didn't socialize her the right way. Also, have you gotten him nuetered? A cat in heat will act differently that a nuetered male. HOWEVER since you vet seems to see nothing wrong with the cat, you probably did a poor job socializing him and now will probably end up getting put down. As far as the eating thing, try giving him a high quality moist food like SCIENCE DIET, it is high in protien and fat, so if he hasnt eaten in a while, it will make sure he gets everything he needs. Cats are picky eaters. Mine wont TOUCH just dry food, you have to give them dry and moist mixed. If you just put a little work inot your cat, it would be a much more rewarding experience

He's just a mean cat. It happens. You can try to win his trust, but there is nothing else to do. I don't think it is a physical ailment. As long as he eats and drinks, I wouldn't worry.

Buy him catnip toys and spend time with him, but never force him to spend time with you. Make yourself available to pet and play and treat, but if he walks away don't grab him. If he feels he has free will he'll relax, and maybe he will come around, though this will take an overwhelming amount of patience. Good Luck!

how old was the kitten when you got it? was it a feral cat? our 1st cat did the same thing. vet said we had 3 options:
1 four way declaw
2 put to sleep
3 dump him somewhere

we went with a 4th opt. found a friend who wanted a totally outdoor cat and gave her to them. she was a happy kitty then.

as for eckofreak, he has posted a question aboue him vs. cat lady. he sounds like a total animal hater. to bad i ain't a humane society officer. imagine the tickets he'd get for animal abuse. anyone who would be mean to a innocent animal isn't a real man. he is the real animal

It does seem that something is wrong w/him. Why don't you try another vet? An animal who reacts that way has a problem. Has he been fixed? Could there be another animal outside who is bothering him/invading his territory, or hurting him?

Keep an eye on him; write down the symptoms you are aware of and try a different vet. Good luck!

Is your cat neutered or spayed? This could help with the aggression and need to go out all the time.

some vets suggest you put the cat on kitty prosac and it helps calm them down, that sounds like my sister's cat. It worked for her kitty. He has calmed down a lot since he has been on kitty drugs. ask your vet. also has he been neutered? that helps calm them down
