Girl, you are one of the lucky ones. Extended for us is a year and a half. Usually, my husband is deployed for a year. There's no real way to tell if he will get extended or not. You're pretty much gonna have to wait till that time comes. Good luck to you, because I know us military wives need it.

The Army deploys for a year at a time. If they get extended, it usually means 15-18 months (hubby's first deployment was 15 months). Usually they don't find out if they are being extended until a couple of weeks before they come home, which really sucks for the families. Last summer there was a unit in Alaska that had already started coming home when they got extended - they sent some of the guys back. When my husband got extended we found out about 2 1/2 wks before he was supposed to be home, and he didn't come home for almost 4 months after that.

I've always heard that the Marines deploy for 6 months at a time. I haven't heard anything about 9 months, but that doesn't mean it isn't true. If he does get extended, it will be because the situation over there has gotten worse and they need to maintain higher levels of ground troops. You probably won't know until the very end of his deployment if that's going to happen. Good luck while he's gone and remember, even if he's gone 9 months, that's still half as long as some of the Army is gone for!

I think only air force and possibly navy get that short of a tour. In the army you do 12 months, plus if extended.

Extensions sometimes happen. But extensions are usually not across the board. If he is coming back in November his unit and the replacements would have already been figured in with the surge. But nobody can tell you if it will happen until right before it happens. But pray and rely on your FRG and he'll be home soon.

try 12 and 14 months. the only ones that still stick to the six month rotation is the Air Force... and sometimes the Navy.

my husbands orders to iraq state until completion of mission. there is no date to return. it could be a year, maybe even 18 months. we are to expect AT LEAST 18 months and if it ends up 12 then better for our soldiers and families. there are extensions due to mission requirements.
