If you were crippled, in a wheelchair, and still eating the typical american diet, and you were told you had a medical problem that was causing your crippling illness, and told you could NOT TOLERATE ANIMAL PROTEIN IN ANY FORM, what would you do.

Now, before you scoff.....this happened to me. I gave up meat and I am well now. The 5 times in two years that I cheated and ate meat, I ended up with crippling symptoms again.

I am not at all suggesting that everyone stop eating meat. My question is just to know if you would give up meat, truly give it up for good. Or would you often be tempted to eat it....thats why I asked you to give it some thought

It may not be the red meat that's at fault. There's a good chance that it's the anti-biotics, growth hormones, steroids, by products from diseased and deformed animals (made into feed), and anything else that is pumped into livestock in an effort to get it to market faster and thereby increase profits. I'd probably try some organic meats for a while before I gave up meat totally.
As a side note though, my wife and I have recently switched to an all organic diet. In the space of little over a week, we experienced a drastic change in our eating habits (don't have the urge to snack at night any more!), our mental health, and our overall physical health. I am/was a diabetic. Not sure if I still am or not, but I haven't had to use either the pills or the two insulins in order to control my blood sugar. This after only a month! To me, that's amazing after 8 years of sticking myself 6 - 10 times per day to check sugars and inject both insulins.

I agree 100% with Art F! There is so much crap in today's food supply that, I believe, are contributing to so many diseases. Think about all the sicknesses in the world today. I am not by any means attributing them all to our nation's food supply, but the overall nutritional value of our foods have been depleted so greatly that we do not receive the same great foods that our ancestors ate thereby we do not get the same healthy effects they did. I do think it is unreasonable to tell everyone that they need to eat only organic, but any changes that a person can make are an improvement. a huge one...stay away from anything pasturized or processed in any way. Natural, whole foods beat out anything that comes in a box!

Well, good for you!
You have some rare medical condition that precludes you from eating animal protein. So, you don't eat meat, and you survive in decent health. If I had the same condition I would do the same thing: abstain from meat -- whatever it took to survive. But I don't have that medical condition, so I'll enjoy my 'animal protein'.
If you are trying to generalize your medical condition into a reason for everyone to become vegan, then you are being illogical.

That is terrible, I work in acare facility we have low or no protien diets. usually to do with joint and muscle issues or temp. for tests.( no meat) We use a protien powder off hand I do not know if it is animal product or not , I could get more info if you need to know if you can try it. We also use meal replacement such as BOOST or ENSURE, again I am not sure if these have animal product, I will check tommorrow at work. I would check into tofu's and health food stores. If you want info let me know. sherrypie36@yahoo.ca.

I'm not sure where your question is exactly. If that is what was advised by your doctor, or ND, or Nutritionist, and it worked for you that's terrific! People should do their best to avoid the things that the professionals (MD or otherwise) recommend. Good for you that you feel better and that you know the source of your illness!
