I know there are lots of agencies on the internet and in the newspapers, but do they charge fees ? if so can these fees vary ? also what is the time scale from application to acceptance, also can this vary dependent on who you apply through ? I am a married man aged 42 with 3 children and a pipefitter/welder by trade, and would like to go ASAP.

To find an Australian Registered Migration Agent in your area go to http://www.themara.com.au and search the register (you can search by country). All agents charge fees that vary. It is best to use a registered agent from this website as an un-registered agent is not regulated with respect to fees and service.

For a pipefitter / welder you can expect the process to take between 9-18 months, depending on how quickly you can get your documents together.

Agencies vary greatly in price.Registered Agents with MARA are the best. Age 45is cut off age for skilled Migration. Welder first class etc is on Migration Occupations in demand. Lead Time as advised by Department is generally 9-18 months. This can also vary. You must apply to Adelaide Skilled Processing Centre for skilled Migration. This advice is definitely correct.

I have just been talking on line to a friend who has just got married in Christchurch New Zealand and she just loves it there. She met her husband here a few years ago, then she went back with him to his home in NZ. She is 31 and I didn't hear of any problems when she was going there.I wish I were younger and I would go there. It seems to be like Ireland and England were about 10 years ago before things started to go haywire. It's awful to think I will never go there....If you decide to go there, I hope you and your family will have all the very best luck in the world. Sorry I am unable to tell you how to go about getting the right papers and such, but going by what the other people on here say, you should have no trouble at all. So good luck and spare a thought for me when you arrive there. You are so lucky. God bless.

You need to contact the High Commissions for both countries in the country you live in. Also look on the web at the sites referenced below.

Generally speaking, you will need to fulfill very strict requirements, but having a trade will help.

I would advise strongly against contacting agencies etc as they charge very high fees and, as you'll see from the sites below, are not recognised to act as intermediaries. Only specialist lawyers can help and would give better value for money.

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship in Australia has all the information you need. You can get all the forms online and do not need to work through an agency. Most of it is straightforward and you can deal directly with the Departmant paying only those Government charges necessary.
