my chihuahua was in heat...so my neighbor let his chihuahua over for about a week. i work all day so i didnt see if they mated or anything. how would i know if she is pregnant right away? are there any dog pregnancy test or anything?

since you didn't see the tie you are going to have to estimate. so lets take the first day the male came over. count 63 days from that day.
Somewhere in about 4-5 weeks from that time you should notice weight gain. swellon belly. Because these dogs are so small you should be able to notice that there are bumps unless she only has 1 pup which is possible.
Get an inexpensive stethescope. listen to her stomache. then listen to her chest. you should notice a diffrence. a puppies heart beat is much faster then the mothers. This really helps when welping so you can know when all the babies are out.
there is not a whole lot of point in takeing the mother to the vets until she is aleast 6 weeks pregnant. they can't tell much. The pups do not show up on sono or exray. Been there 10 times. I even had 1 female that was pregnant and been to the vets the week before and vet didn't know she was pregnant. we didn't know till she pushed the pup out a week later.

there is no pregnacy tests for dog right now but see if her nipples are getting bigger but I think you need to go to the vet for that dogs will stay inheat for 2 weeks and if she is a full breed they go into heat 1 time a year but just to be safe go see your vet.and when she is nursing pick up some calcium pills this will help her make more milk and make the puppies stronger 1 a day thats all and don't be wurryed when she does have puppies don't wurry she will not eat for a couple of days this she thinks the babys will be safe and OK but don't forget vitamines too only 1 time a day good luck and get some child suport from your friend she might have 10 to 15 pups

Mark on your calendar the days the male dog was with the female so you know when she might have puppies due. The most reliable ways to test for pregnancy are to have an xray a couple of days before the girl is due and then you can actually count puppies.

If the male had access, I would say she probably is. I would take her to the vet.
She will need a different diet if she is pregnant. She will need more protein and calcium. I fed my girl puppy food, pan fried chicken livers and venison. She loved it, and the extra attention from me. I also gave her cottage cheese...full fat. Good luck....my doggies had three litters of puppies and it is super fun!

Are these show dogs who have had genetic testing for health certificates? If not,why would you even let an intact male near your intact female? If you are serious about breeding responsibly,you wouldn't be asking questions about canine pregnancy here on YaHoo.Please find a responsible breeder to mentor you or get your dog spayed.

You will notice a change of behavior; like not feeling well, maybe throwing up, she may not want to eat for a couple of days, may have more of an appetite, may want to be closer to you.
