Are they still making the Model 600 Remington? I thought it was replaced with the 673 Guide rifle which has a longer barrel and more steel parts (like the ventilated rib).
I bought two last year, one in 6.5 Remington magnum for approx. $700 and a .350 Remington magnum (which went on special the week I bought it) and I paid approx. $600 for it.
As I recall on the older 600s the barrel was too short for the bullet to realize its full potential. The muzzle blast was quite severe, too. A good friend of mine owned one in .243 Winchester and that was his only complaint.
I always liked the looks of the 600 so I bought the new 673 Guide rifle as quick as I could.
