If you say that you will not do something in the name of Jesus but you do anyway, is that a sin or would that be lieing to our saviour? The reason I'm asking is because someone who comes to this site very often said that he would not do something in the name of Jesus but he did anyway

I asked last night if all the Christians who post negative things about gays would PLEASE just for one day not & I asked if youcant to it for another person, can you please doit in the name of Jesus. Well a person by the screen name Jesus loves you said that since I asked in the name of Jesus, he would since anything you ask from Jesus I will get. But he lied. He's telling them they're going to hell & he said he wouldn't until Tuesday, I wonder how Jesus feels about him now

If he is making a promise in the name of Jesus that is like swearing to tell the truth in a court of law. It is not the same as asking something in the name of Jesus which is done in prayer. What I understand you saying is that he promised you that for one day he would not say anything negative about gays and he even went so far as to make that promise in Jesus' name. Now he has broken his promise. What he has also done is to use Jesus' name in vain and/or to break a promise to Jesus as well. Either way it is wrong. Perhaps he has ADD and can't remember. Maybe he is just a fool. A sinner can be saved, but a fool can not be saved from himself.

Exactly do what in the name of Jesus? That is a question that needs a little more explanation.

But please let me tell you, I am a Christian. But I am by no means perfect nor do I want people to think I am. As for the person you are talking about, they are human. He/She makes mistakes like you/me. We must not judge one another.

Please allow me to understand what you are saying: is this right? You have heard people say something like "I will not________, and I swear to it in the name of Jesus Christ." Is that what you are saying? I haven't heard that even once since I've started here.
I must not understand the question. I'm sorry.

I think we all say we wont do certain things we know are wrong, but for what ever reason we do it any way knowing it is wrong, if we lie to ourselves we lie to Our Lord too!

Keep personal business outta here.

There was certainly no need for you to mention anything about a third party who posts here.

if you say you won't do something.. then you shouldnt do that very thing. and you cannot 'lie' to our Savior... He knows our heart.

but we cannot sit and judge others either... if you feel you have the right to 'judge' what they do... you may need to check YOUR heart. Each person is responsiblle for their decisions in life. if they choose to sin, it is between them and God... we cannot sit and 'watch' to catch them 'doing something' for that isnt our job

You cannot expect rational behavior from someone who lives their life based on an irrational system of beliefs. You will only get frustrated.

I guess so. After all, it could be viewed as taking the Lord's name in vain.
