Child abuse in short is a controversy .In modern times the word abuse can be used in many ways. Abuse can start as physical punishment, hitting for no particular reason, striking hard causing bruising and red marks on the body. Children are vulnerable and small and trust parents to take care of them, they do not see this punishment as abuse ,they blame their selves because they have trusted the adult opinion that they have been naughty. When it comes to serious harm ,broken bones, fractured ribs ,concussion ,black eyes, head injuries, broken fingers and internal injuries, children will be upset, angry, depressed, terrified,or unconscious .The abusive parent that hands out verbal threats is one of the abuses you cannot see and can go undetected for years. The children become so used to this ,that they cease to think and just exist ,trying hard to avoid the physical blows and verbal threats. Some injuries obviously cannot go undetected and injuries are explained away as ,Oh she fell down the stairs, or she ran into the door, or she fell in the garden.Sexual abuse is the worst kind of abuse because alongside of verbal abuse it can only be discerned by the keenest of eyes.Sexual and verbal abuse go hand in hand and the child is so diminished that she / he hardly exists. This misery is such a destructive force it takes over and the pattern of damage is irreversible. If one or more family member is involved in an incestuous pattern then the destruction is complete. So abuse is a common problem ,how will it be detected, how can people stop it . They can stop it by becoming aware ,people can then see what abuse really is..........!!!!!!

Child abuse is emotional as well as physical. Alot of the times the emotional abuse is far worse than a swat on the butt. I am raising two children who aren't mine because their mother chose to do drugs over raising her kids. That is child abuse. You should never beat your child, but a simple swat once in a while sometimes let them know that you are serious, but absolutely no more than that. You should never tell your child they are stupid or that you hate them. I am sorry for anyone who has ever had to go through that.

Yes, I was spanked as a child. I remember the spankings but I don't remember why I was spanked. I remember feeling intimidated and ashamed but I don't remember why I felt ashamed. I remember being told I was bad but I don't remember what I did that made me bad. The only lesson I carry with me now as a result of being spanked is that when my children do something wrong I will make them responsible for their actions by making sure they know what they did that was wrong, why it was wrong, what they can do to make it right and how not to repeat the same mistake.

My heart would break if my child felt scared or intimidated by me. A parents obligation to their children is to give them love, security and protection, not fear. Fear hurts the child.

Well I know I had my butt beat by a belt when I was bad and if I talked back or stuck out my tongue I was popped or soap or on my knees. I think that is what is wrong with some kids today.. they need a good spanking everynow and then. I have used hot sauce on my son before and soap also. It worked at the time. I think the nose to wall thing in public is great. But others think of it as child abuse.. usually ones who do not have children!! I know before I had my son.. I told my mom.. I will not spank him.. LOL! That was a joke. I spanked when he was doing things wrong over and over.. he caught on quickly. Now that he has been diagnosed with ADHD.. I do not spank him.. it is not his fault. But as I was growing up.. YES I was spanked with a leather belt, backhanded a couple of times.. and I will admit it I deserved it everytime. I was no angel! I got caught sticking out my tongue.. had to keep it out the whole time in a store.. it was pretty embarrassing.

Well, child abuse is when a parent doesn't care, love, and nurture
their child. They mistreat them when they do something wrong and that is why the child usually runs away from home. It's pretty sad actually. And then the kid that runs away either ends up kidnapped and die or starve and die. I hate to see child abuse.

Those idiot parents don't even know how to dress their child. I wish child abuse had never started.

I was raised by my father alone and I can honestly say that he never spanked me at all. All he had to do was raise his voice and I took him seriously, and I turned out pretty good I think. I do remember one time my grandma spanked me as a child for getting too close to the street and she thought spanking me to show me she was serious about that rule would hurt a lot less than getting hit by a car and I agree with that.

I don't think any of this would get a parent into criminal trouble under the current state of the law. However, in California, a Democratic state legislator is proposing a bill to make it CRIMINAL to use corporal punishment for children under 3.

That is absolutely CRAZY. I have a 2 year old and HAVE to spank him to get him to mind. Nothing else works. Believe me, I have tried.

Would it not be abuse to simply let him do whatever he wants, when he wants to do it, to allow him to hit me and my wife, pull my mother in law's hair, etc., with no consequences?

child abuse is not only hitting a child it is letting them get fat, calling them names or hurting their feelings, making them feel insecure and so on. It is sad but human nature makes us mean even if we are not trying to be we sometimes hurt other peoples feelings.
