I always see these Designed to Sell shows putting in granite countertops for less than $1000 because they were able to get remnants from a supplier. Anyone know where these remnant places are? I only have about 25 sq ft of countertops, so I'm hoping I could do it much cheaper than the Home Depot price.

Best advice is to consult your local Yellow Pages and look for something like "counter tops - granite". There is bound to be at least a couple of them in the Greater St. Louis area. These will be the shops that fabricate the counter tops and stock a certain amount of marble and granite. Gather your measurements and give them a visit. The rest is a matter of picking a color and negotiating a price. Many of these kinds of businesses do most of their business with contractors, many of whom are notorious for slow pay. If you can get to the owner and offer cash, you might get a very good deal indeed.

Good luck with your granite counter project.
