I am as non-socialist as they come, but as a teacher and a parent, I am totally in favor of a uniform dress code. There are many reasons that uniforms are great. Here are a few:
1. Uniforms take away the "clique" aspect of clothing. In other words, one group of kids is less likely to be ostracized because they don't have the $100 jeans from Buckle or Gap; everyone can afford a pair of khakis and a white shirt. Goodwill has those everyday.
2. It is easier to enforce a dress code if everyone is wearing essentially the same thing, thereby making discipline a lot less stressful and time consuming for teachers and administrators. This allows faculty to do more teaching, and a lot less time butting heads with kids who are determined to have their way with their clothing.
3. Along with the "clique" nature of clothes, there will be a lot less bullying and stealing. No one will steal a pair of khakis or a shirt, but they will steal that expensive football jersey that Junior just had to have for Christmas and left in his locker. And the gang kids will bully the hell out of a kid for wearing the wrong colors, or wearing his hat the wrong way, or whatever they don't like. Uniforms will stop a lot of this ridiculous behavior.
Poor families have enough to deal with on a regular basis, just to get their kids fed and to school everyday. If they knew that they could buy 3 pairs of the same kind of pants and shirts, and could get them from Goodwill and brands didn't matter, it would ease their minds some. Kids wouldn't harrass them, wouldn't harrass each other, and teachers could teach without being the watchdog over hemlines and necklines. What an idea!

First of all your uniforms can be passed down to each other so that doesn't have to be that much of a problem I'm guessing. Where I'm from Uniform is complusary and my oldest sister went to another school but my other oldest sister went to my school and I had to use her polo shirts (my mum did buy me a skirt and everything else for myself) If you can't afford a Uniform most schools usually either give you an old one or something or they might give you a special benefit which might give you the uniform cheaper or for free because legally they can't kick you out of school for not being about to afford a uniform. I'm from the UK and uniform is compulsory and I honestly don't find it so bad because all the money I would of been using to by clothes for school each week I spend on one uniform and my school jumper (Sweater) lasted me for like 3 years before I bought a new one.... But if nobody in the school can afford the uniform why don't you just all petition against the uniform then if nobody can afford it....or everybody do something to raise money for the kids?

Most high schools already have some sort of rudimentary dress code, although many times they are hard to "strictly" enforce as they are rather ambiguous and leave a lot to interpretation. Having something along the lines of a military uniform might be more productive.

I have been two sided on this issue for years. I complain about my schools dress code that includes tucking your shirt into your pants unless you're wearing a sweater and stuff like that. Nothing big. However, at the same time I would love uniforms. I think that even though everyone would be wearing the same thing, we could still make it individual with jewelry and other accessories. It's safer that way, and it keeps the kids that can't afford brand names to look as cool as everyone else. No gangs would be classified by the color of their shirts and us more reserved girls wouldn't have to worry about girls with shirts so low cut you can see their belly buttons.
I think they are a good thing.

From personl experiences, school dress code/uniforms have a positive impact, overall, on the students. As we all know, children can be cruel to each other, verbally and physically. Dress codes/uniforms drastically impacts conduct and distractions in a positive way, as well as controlling what may be obscene to some.

No- and I'll tell you why.
Having a uniform means that everyone is required to wear exactly what the dress code states-I strongly disagree with this. I don't think that school officials should have the right to tell students what to wear. By not implementing school uniforms, we are promoting individualism and creativity.

Many public shcools already do have strict dress codes. It's very common around here for students to be required to wear khaki or navy blue pants, with only certain types of shirts and blouses allowed. I don't think it's necessary, but I don't think it's harmful, either.

It isn't the answer to anything. It's a desperate attempt at allowing for all kids to feel lumped into one great big conformist shell just to save a few miserable kids from gettin beaten up wearing a nice shirt and nice pair of sneakers. Raise your ****** kids better and they can wear whatever they want. Stop blaming society.....you are society.

No. As long as something isn't obscene, then why shouldn't you be able to wear it?
