Isn't the point of travel to experience new things and places? I have seen this from every nationality, but it always throws me a bit that people are annoyed at having to deal with differences rather than enjoying them. Do you think that they ever have a good time on holiday?

Have you run into people or friends like this? I have friend who are disappointed everywhere they go, I think that they may have complained their way around the globe by now....I find it rather funny. Share your stories :)

These people shouldn't be let out of the country to embarass us abroad. The point of a holiday or just a day trip is to see different sights and experience new things. I can understand people complaining if their hotel was a dump but complaining over things like the weather was too hot or the food was different is just stupid!

I agree with you... people should enjoy the differences, which after all is the point of traveling. However, culture shock is something people sometimes underestimate. And especially if your expectations don't meet the reality, people may get stressed out and we all know how we can be if we're stressed out. Anyway, I'm not trying to find an excuse for such behavior but rather give you a reason why I think people end up whining about differences they experience in foreign countries.

I totally agree with you. I love to travel and learn new things, and I really have a problem with people who go to a foreign country and then complain all the time.

My ex-Boyfriend was like that. He was a US Soldier stationed in Germany, and all he ever did when he left the base was complain that Germany was so different. I remember one time we went grocery shopping to one of the German stores and afterwards in the car he told me how disappointed he was. When I asked why he said that he didnt like the store because it didnt sell any known brands. I answered how he got that idea, cause that store belongs is like the German equivalent to Walmart, and sells 90% brands. He looked at me really incredulously and said: "That cant be, cause there was no brands I recognized." Well, duh, thats cause its GERMAN brands...
But then now that he is back in the US (we're still in touch) he says he misses it so much, and that Germany is really great...

One of my friends is also really bad. I refuse to go on vacation with her, because whenever she is outside of Germany she will only eat at McDonalds or Burger King. She basically refuses to try anything she doesnt know from home, so she'd rather have McDonalds three times a day for a week than go to a local restaurant. So annoying!
