Anybody here who knows the difference between an ariline pilot and a commercial pilot and what the two entails? The thing is i'm filling out a form to the university and i'm being asked which area i want to major in and i need to find the difference between the two so i'll be able to complete me form. Thanks for the help.

An airline pilot typically flies passengers under what is known as CFR 49 Part 121. It is not limited to passengers, as Part 121 applies to scheduled flights, and companies like Fed-Ex and UPS fly cargo under Part 121.
A commercial pilot flies all for-hire commercial flights, including Parts 121, 135, 91, 133, 137.
I think the main difference here is the ratings involved. A commercial pilot flies under a commercial rating. An airline pilot flies under an ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) ratine, which typically involves the same maneuvers on the checkride, but with more precise requirements.

A commercial pilot can fly small charters of 1 - how many? people IF they are rated in the plane - from a Cessna 150 up to whatever Lear Jet and beyond. If their job is to fly people or freight, they must have a commercial license and rating.
An Airline pilot usually gets their start in a regional airline and after
thousands of flight hours, gets the opportunity to fly for the big boys, and moves up to United, Delta, Southwest, etc.

an ATP airline transport pilot certificate is required for a Commercial pilot that wishes to fly passengers for an airline.
Any pilots that get paid to fly ( regardless if its dusting crops, flying airshows, or flying a jumbo jet, ) are commercial pilots,

sorry airline pilot transport cargo also. the bottom level of an airliner is called a cargo hold to carry luggage and also cargo that needs to be delivered to the same destination as the airliner is going. how airline companies makes some extra money.

commercial pilots will fly anything that transport passengers and cargo. airline pilots transport only people.
