my daughter is 6 and i have had suspicions for a couple of years that there is something not quite right with her, she lacks social interaction with peers, although very bright, hates change in routine, cannot hold eye contact, follow simple instructions & throws tantrums. also very clumsy, has blank spells & sleepy. have had 1 referral to a psychology centre & saw a young girl on placement who spent next to no time with my daughter & came up with a diagnosis that made me laugh - basically my standards are too high!! i have since been back to the doctor & have spoken in depth with her teacher & both mentioned autistic spectrum disorder & aspergers. i am prepared to go private if it means my daughter gets the best treatment available.

Your GP is the main point of call - go back and tell them that you are not happy with the service you received at the psychology centre. You are entitled to ask for a second referral.

You can also ask for details of local private options.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

There is also a good guide at getting a diagnosis here:

You might want to read up about statementing, to enable your daughter to get the best education:

contact the national autistic society and parentplus parentline. Also ask your daughter's school to arrange an EP assessment and they may then recommend referrals to Child and Family Therapy Centres.

Very good luck to your difficult situation. For many years now I have thought my young nephew had this condition. Unfortunately, it went UNTREATED and diagnosed with ADHD and he also has OCD. and is now in prison for assult. Please do not think this would ever happen to your daughter, but I would advise you to pull out all the stops as there is a lot which can be done borth for your girl and yourself in coping. There is no such thing as a high standard when it comes to the health of our kids.
