I would say that the best difference should be 10 years either way, because the differences are not so vast as to make compatibility an issue. For example, I used to date a woman who was eight years younger than I was, and we were able to still find plenty in common with one another to form a connection. I usually use the five years younger, five years older rule normally, but I will consider those within 10 years of me (which now is 25-45). Anything more than that and the chances of a long term relationship developing become lesser.

It depends on how old you are. I would say 2 years like everyone else but you see if your daughter is 11 you really wouldnt want her dating someone 13 he would be n highschool n would be pressuring her to do stuff too soon. so my age graph is as follows: 11:12, 12:13, 13:14, 14:15. 15:17(soph:senior), 17 no older than 20 if your out of hs. after 21 its up to you but I wouldnt suggest that you date anyone thats over 4years older than you until you get to about 23 24 when you have matured enough to know all the games n bs men play or women play.

There's 10 years beween my girlfriend and me. I'm 31 and she's 21. I think beyond the age of 20ish, society seems to deem and a large age gap slightly more acceptable. What sounds better...a girl of 17 and a guy of 27...or a girl of 27 and a guy of 37? there both the same age gap.
It's all to do with the maturity of the younger partner.
Young girls are seen to be not in control of there hormones and own mind as it were untill there in there late teens / early 20's, and are seen as easily lured by the thrill of dating an older man for 'show off reasons'.

Well, it's hard to put a number on that. For example, if there was a 10 year age difference when a girl is 15 and a guy is 25 then thats just gross and illegal...but if it was a 60 year old women and a 70 year old man then no one would care.
It depends on how old you are...if you're a minor (younger than 18) then you probably want to date someone 2-3 years older.
Bless your heart

To me, it has nothing to do with age, it's the maturity of the individuals involved in the relationship. By maturity I refer to both mental and emotional state. One could be 25 years old and still act and think like a 9 year old, now this person, despite age, would not be ready for a relationship. On the other hand a 25 year old man trying to have a relationship with a 12 year old is totally ridiculous since (and I'm not referring to the law either) that child would not be mentally nor emotionally be prepared to handle a real relationship.
That's my contribution.

I would say about 6-8 years on people aged 24 and over and 2-3 years on people below that age. The reason being that as you get older you find you have more in common with other people and tend to have real relationships rather than ones based on the physical side of things.

Personally about 5years but I know people with 18 years difference both ways who are happy but they were all fairly mature when they met. The younger you are the closer it should be. I 16 with a 34 year old is unlikely to be successful, if the older person really has strong feelings they should be responsible and wait. By mature I mean no younger than 25. My opinion only
