She uses some kind of sticky material to lay out her quilt blocks. I have ask at several fabric stores and no one knows what I am talking about. She does a lot of cutting and pressing and just lays the blocks on this material then takes it to the sewing machine to sew. Just need to know the name of the sticky material and where to get it. Thanks

I wonder if she's using Sulky Sticky. It's a tear-away stabilizer with an adhesive side, usually used for machine embroidery work. Check out the link below for more info on it. Just because it says it's for embroidery doesn't mean you can't use it for quilting.

You could also use a regular lightweight stabilizer and apply a spray adhesive (often sold as "basting spray") to it. There are several different brands.

It is probably either felt or flannel. Many quilters use a thick piece of flannel to lay out the blocks or pieces of blocks. Flannel is relatively inexpensive and can be bought in wide widths. Felt would work, too, but is much more expensive.
