I would shop around and look for a Canon or a Nikon.

Prices change rapidly and vary so much on the net...
so I would advise you to go to

A camera which I bought my daughter and takes excellent 8X10s when enlarged is Fugi FinePix S5200. I paid $238- in Dec. Has 5 MP and 10X optical zoom. Has 1 sec delay between shots. Great on re-chargeable batteries. Admit a bit bulky. You might want to check this camera with other reviewers at Website dpreview.com Another camera with good write-ups with less optical zoom is the Canon SD600.
Back to the Fugi it's 1/2000 shutter speed and ISO from 64-1600

The Canon A620 or the SD600. If you want slim and small the SD600 is for you. The A620 is a bit bluckier than the SD600 but the sensor is 2 times bigger so it takes better pictures. SD600 is a great pocket size camera, its one of the best pocket for under $300
