I don't know how old your parents are, but it might be that they are old enough that they only remember the days of hard plastic contact lenses, which were definitely a risky thing to wear (I got corneal abrasions in both eyes from hard lenses) or the older soft-lense contacts that had a very high incidence of eye infections associated with them.
First off, you need to stop with the "everyone does it" argument because that argument never, ever, ever, ever cut any ice with any parent since the dawn of time. All it does is trigger the parental knee-jerk response of "So if everyone else goes and jumps off a cliff, are you going to do that, too?" or some variant.
I suggest that you go to an optometrist's or opthamologist's office and ask them if they have some literature (brochures, etc.) that give information about contact lenses. Most especially literature relating to the safety of contact lenses. Tell them that your parents are worried and you want to convince them to let you wear contacts.
You might also look at some websites like Bausch and Lomb http://www.bausch.com/en_US/consumer/visioncare/product/softcontacts/soft_contacts.aspx for info; they also have a page with coupon offers and rebates: http://www.bausch.com/en_US/consumer/coupon_and_rebates.aspx
Let your parents look at the websites and see that they can get coupons for free trial contact lenses. I am sure that your parents are concerned about the ongoing expenses of having contacts; if they know they can get discounts and so forth, that might help your argument.
Johnson & Johnson is another maker of contacts whose website you could check; the optometerist who sold you your glasses can probably put you onto more offers.
Give your parents information that can help them, and I'd be surprised if they don't come around. Good luck!

Why don't you search the internet for a really good website all about modern contacts. I suspect your parents are thinking of the contacts from years ago, which could scratch your eyes but technology has come a long way since then (like the gel contacts for instance, do your parents know about these type?)
If you print off a good description of modern day contacts that might help persuade them.
And remember -they are only thinking of your best interests in saying no at the moment, but once they know more facts and how much safer contacts are thesedays I'm sure they'll be persuaded.
good luck

How old are you? Contacts may not hurt, per say...but if you don't take care of them properly you can set up an infection, tear your cornias, etc... If you're too young...they probably just want you to be a little older before allowing that type of responsibility. Contacts are no joke. If you screw up your eyes...you can do permanent damage. Give it some time and approach your parents again in a few months/a year. Good luck!

I am twelve and I just got my contacts. I love them! They only hurt when you put them in-side-out or of they are dirty when you put them in. They are the best thing ever. I like them a lot more then my glasses. You should talk to your parents. What i did was I brought it up during my eye appointment. And my doctor told my mom it was a good idea. Good-Luck!

Do tons of research and get a doctor who is on your side. This will give them the facts and also show that you really want them and are responsible enough to dedicate time to research.
