Some dogs develop an allergy to their plastic bowls.. If he is eating or drinking in plastic, I would switch to ceramic or stainless steel. If he is eating or drinking in an aluminum pan, that could be the cause, as well.
If he doesn't return to normal a couple of days after switching bowls, he needs to see the vet, as it could be an indication of something more serious.

Do your dog like to try and "bury" things in the house? My dog, when he had a bone or something, will try and hide it up against the wall or something (like we don't see that!) and he will rub him nose against the carpet so much that the tip of his nose starts bleeding. When it stops bleeding it turns white like a scab.

I have a maltese and it this breed this means that they need more sun, and calcium from the sun's rays. He's probably an inside dog. Let him play outside more often, and make sure he gets his nosetan!

its obviously irritating him and he cant go on like that... he has to see a vet and see what it is and what can be done. if you never noticed it before it must be something medical
