Death - what do you think happens?

What do you REALLY happens to you when and after you die?!

(I know not nice question to think about, but it is one that sometimes quietly pesters me)

You might enjoy studying "Near Death Experiences" (called NDEs by those scholars writing on the topic). They show that even though the brain and heart have stopped and the person is physically dead, they still have thoughts and vision and experiences that they can tell others about--after their heart and brain start back up. Once born, man dies a physical death once, but a spiritual death never--so our soul goes on, either to live eternaly or to die eternally.

well get a load of this, im not a religious person but i would say to anyone be good in your heart and do things for the right reasons, then if when you die its all true and St Peter is there at the gates then you can answer the question as to why you should be let in, if you go through life not caring and being mean and its all true, then when you meet St Peter your in some serious **** and looking at a downward escalator. personally i just dont know what happens, i think the people in hospitals who have been revived and have stories of floating out of their bodies have it just right, thats the nearest i think anyones come to going there and coming back

When you die, your body shuts down, and ceases to function. Its like sleeping, without any dreams...or waking up. Anyone who believes in "Heaven", or "Hell" is obviously oblivious to the truth, and is brainwashed by religion. Religions and the belief in a god, are just for people who cant handle the fact that you just die, and who need a false sense of security. Youve only got one life, so live it up, and just do whatever makes you happy. (Sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll anybody?) :)

If you live a good life and treat people well I think you go where you believe you deserve to go. If you're a bad person you get sent to wait in a never ending line at the BMV.

I believe that if you were a good and kind and decent person while on this planet, that you will goto "Heaven." If you were not nice, then you get another chance to fix it by coming back in another form.

I used to believe that you needed to believe in Jesus to goto "Heaven". But I know MANY nice, good, decent, people who don't believe in Jesus, either because they are another religion, or because they just don't, and I can't believe that they don't get to "Heaven" as well.

You cease to exist mentally. Your body becomes part of the Earth. You feel no pain. We all die. Every last living thing dies. No need to worry about it, you're not alone in dying! Nothing to fear.

i kinda agree with meathorse's answer. when we die, the energy in our bodies (or soul) is released, and it becomes part of all that is around us, while our bodies become part of the earth.
