I would definitely go with the jetta. The scions are just weird to me and won't have as much room as the jetta. Also, the new jetta has a really good crash rating. I've seen some nasty looking crashes and the person with the vw always comes out better than the others involved. The scion just seems to be one of those cheaper cars for younger people who like to do a ton of stuff to their cars. You can do stuff to the jettas too but they look much nicer than the scions. If you'll be having the car for 8 years, get a warranty that will cover for the majority of that time.

the Jetta is going to give you much more creature comforts and more space for the money. if you the the 2.0l turbo version of the Jetta (GLi) then you are going to get a TON more power than the Scion too (the tc has the same motor as the Corolla). but the GLi is way expensive.
Scion is, after all, a Toyota, so they have the reliability going for them. but the 2007 Jetta is a relativly new beast, so long term reliability is not really known at this time.
the styling is similar, the new Jetta bodystyle is very Japanese looking to me, so it's a toss up there...although you get 4 doors with the Jetta.
i'd lean more towards the Jetta...suprise suprise!
ps: any new car is devalued the moment it is driven off the lot, no matter what it is (with the exception of a Ferrari or some other super high end vehicle). it's just the way it goes.

Jetta is a massively more beneficial vehicle to the scion line. there is not any way a scion will nonetheless be in solid structure in 8 years. The jetta is solid, lengthy lasting, and relaxing tocontinual. I actually have owned VW's with more beneficial then three hundred,000 miles that ran like the day they were new.

I have a Jetta and I love it, don't waste your money on a scion, they're just a fad. But what the first guy said is true, don't buy a brand new car, buy a used 2006, you can save alot of money that way.
