Proofs are fun!!! But that's not why we do them. Like the other answerer said, it does help you remember the big concepts. But that's still not why we do them.
Proof is your first introduction to the world of formal logic. It's about writing an irrefutable argument, and who doesn't want to be able to do that? You will need to present arguments for the rest of your life. Learn now what makes a good one.
When you start with what we can all agree on, and take steps we can't refute, your conclusion must be correct. It's not about math...It's about thinking.

While most likely you will never have to use a proof in the future the reason your teachers have you do proofs is so that you can really understand the mathmatical concepts you are being taught (which yes, will be useful for you in the future). By doing proofs, you are reinforcing what you have learned in math and will better be able to use it in the future. They may seem long and tedious now, but they are a great way to remember math concepts later on.

Proofs are the way that mathematicians prove that a theory works. For example, the Pythagorean Theorem went through a series of proofs before it was accepted. Now we can use it to prove harder theorems and problems.

Proofs allow you to understand mathematical concepts, particularly logic. Logic is used in numerous areas of study, including economics, law, humanities, and of course advanced math.
