My sister and my mother let my cat out, though I've repeatedly told them not to. He's been gone for two days already and I'm worried about him esp. since its raining right now. They have let him out before, but he's never been out for more than 12 hours and he's alway come home when I called him. I've been calling him every few hours since I found out, and the only response I got was from the neighbor's cat. We also have left the cat door open ever since he left, and I know he hasn't snuck in since, because he would be crying for me to feed him.

What is the best way for me to find him?

I've already posted lost ads on petfinder.com and myspace.
I checked the county's animal control website and it said that all animals they find are registered on pets911.com, so I posted a lost report and checked the found reports, but I found nothing.

Is there something else I should be doing, or is it silly of me to worry after just 2 days?

You might try putting his catbox outside. He will be able to find his own sent. I herd cats can smell up to 5 MILES! You might also put your dirty socks and shoes on the front porch. Again famiar sents. Good Luck!!!

It is Not silly to worry and I would just go look under porches and other places that cats can squeeze into small spaces. Also I would put up lost posters in your neighborhood on telephone poles and see if some stores will let you post a poster in their store. Also just keep checking the animal shelter and hopefully eventually the cat will show up. good luck.

You are doing all the right things. Your cat is lucky to have you as an owner. I have had two cats that would mysteriously disappear, and return a few days to weeks later and act as if they had never been gone. Cats as I'm sure you know, have very different personalities than dogs, they often do their own thing and like their independence. I hope your cat returns safe and sound.

you are doing the right thing! he has probably found some shelter to hide in for the time being. keep calling him every so often around his favorite outdoor places. bring his favorite food or treats and shake them to make the "crunchy sound". also you might want to leave some food around your yard if he comes wandering home. keep calling around to neighbors and friends to let them know to keep an eye out. you should probably post a sign at a local store or somewhere where people will see it instead of just on the internet as well. good luck, hope he comes home!

You're doing all the correct things and yes, it's OK to worry. I had the same experience. My cat was missing 2wk. One morning on the way to work, my husband saw an orange spot far in the distance. It was P.C., my cat with a few cuts & bruises, terribly thin but home nonethless.

In my experience with my cats, yes. Mickey and Minnie were both cats I had- Mick was first and 4 yrs older. Minnie was 13 when Mick died and he had been in her life those entire 13 yrs. They were not exceptional close- more of a coexistence, by she did definately mop around and become skittish for awhile, when he died.
