I'm assuming that since you are asking this question that it isn't all muscle. For a 12 year old, you are probably at risk of becoming pretty overweight if you don't start something now. You are still young enough though that you don't really need to go on a "diet" but instead, cut back on salty or sugary snacks. Give up things like McDonalds. Eat healty things like fruits a veggies or yogurt. Try to exercise a little. Honestly, just running a half mile every day will make a big difference. The more you get used to running the farther you will be able to run. My advice is to try to get your body healthy and in shape while you are still young that way you can have better habits for when you are older. The younger you are the easier it is to start.

No 12 year old needs to go on a diet. It's not a good idea at all and you will only yo-yo up and down in weight. Alot of it's likely puppy-fat anyway that will go as you get older.
The best thing to do though is just eat healthily (make sure you get your five a day fruit and veggies and keep fattening treats to a limited amount) and drink lots of water.
Get good exercise but do it by doing something you like- sport, dancing, roller-skating etc.etc. and do it at least once a week.
Then stop worrying about your weight and be a 12 year old and have fun!

You are smart to confront this problem at your young age. Diet is a very unhealthy word. Moderation is the key to controlling weight along with portion control. Processed foods should be very carefully monitored or eliminated completely. Make sure you get the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables, dairy products, etc. Don't fall into all the fad diets out there or all the gimmicks. As one of the other responders said, you could take it off but it will come right back when you go back to your old eating habits. Good luck and remember portion control.

Yes should but don't take pills. Eat healthy foods and exercise. go bike riding or jogging. There are so many ways and things you can do to lose weight. Ask you're parents to help you. You can get information from you're doctor. Maybe you should join a gym or get involved with some school activities. I am going thru this with my nine year old. When she gets bored she eats and she is over weight.

You don't need to "go on a diet". You need to modify your eating and exercise habits to make healthier decisions for life.
If you "go on a diet" the weight will come back as soon as you go off the diet.
Do it now while it's still easy and there's not that much extra weight. If you wait til you're 20, your eating habits will be much more engrained and harder to break, AND there will be more weight to lose.

I don't want to sound mean but I think you should because the average 12 year old is around 90-100 pounds or less. just try limiting your sugar-intake and eat smaller portions more often. but I guess it depends on how tall you are..DO NOT TRY ANOREXIA OR BULIMIA, that is horrible for your body and slows down your metabolism, believe me I've tried it.

Not just yet. casue you will hit a growth spert around 13 or 14 and you will slim down . My son was short and chubby the dr. kept telling me not to put him on a diet he would grow out of it. and sure enough he did he is now 16 and stands about 5'9'' and slimmed down nicely. but if you will start exercising now to firm yourself up you will start slimming now..
