Too much vitamin c can absolutely make you sick. For adults, the daily limit is 2000 mg per day, and this number includes the amount you ingest with your food.
You can get stomach cramps, nausea and diarreah from ingesting too much, and there are apparently links to kidney stone formation as well.

if the person is active and has a high water intake it is very hard to ingest harmful levels of water soluble vitamins and minerals...
the RDA guidelines are based on the needs of the sedentary individual, athletes need substantially more nutrients than those levels stated by the RDA.

Too much of anything can be "not-so-good" for you, but in the case of Vitamin C, you'd have to take a lot to have "too much". I wouldn't worry about it, provided one doesn't take excess vitamin C on a daily basis.

The recommended dose is 500 mg. I take it daily and when coming down with something I take 1000 for a couple of days, but too much I believe is not recommended. You may want to ask a pharmacist, who will put your mind to rest about this matter.
