Depends on the laws in your state (or country). Where I live it is indeed home invasion, and you'd have legal authority to shoot him. Other places prohibit you from defending yourself in any way, though they do generously allow you to flee for your life or grovel for mercy.

Home invasion does not exist in my state. Not as a law, itself. It is used to describe burglary. Burglary is when a person enters a (dwelling) with the purpose of comitting a crime (felony). When others are home, it is coined by the term "home invasion".

No. Any entrance into a dwelling without permission /with intent to cause harm, intimidate, damage ,a disturbance , with or without theft is home invasion. This does not include a person who lived with you.
