Sleep paralysis is a condition where your body is paralyzed after you wake up or a few moments before you fall asleep. Japan has been doing sleep studies on sleep paralysis and they believe that there seems to be some connection between sleep paralysis and UFO abductions and Japanese tales in which a witch lies on the chest of men, woman, and children, preventing them from getting up.

That's when you 'wake up' and can't move, you can see around but not react. In the Middle Ages and other periods, they thought it meant an incubus or succubus was attacking you and that's why you can't move. There doesn't seem to be any scientific explanation for why sleep paralysis happens, and many occult explanations! I think its just your body not catching up with your brain!
