You should contact

Jefferson County S.P.C.A.

The Jefferson County S.P.C.A. is a non-profit organization that was founded over 112 years ago to help protect and care for domestic animals in Jefferson County. We are the only No-Kill facility in the area, as well as being the only shelter to accept cats in the county.

They will find a home for your dogs and carefully screen the home to make sure the people who adopt your dogs are good people who will take good care of them. Be careful if you try and find homes on your own. People lie all the time and without checking references and things like that you never knoww what will happen to your pets.

First you need to make sure your "friend" can take care of this dog. Can he afford the food, shots, de-wormings, toys, crate, pee pads, and everything else you need to take care of a puppy? This should be the first step. After you have confirmed they are capable of supporting themselves and a pup then you should consider going to the local shelter to see all of the pits that are there. I'm not familiar with Florida laws regarding pit bulls. I do know that there are shelters all over the US that house this breed. You cannot find one for free though. If you do, it's probably got something wrong with it. Too many people breed their pits not knowing anything about their backgrounds and then their pups grow up to be aggressive or just plain retarded. It's the sad truth. People who are willing to "get rid" of a puppy for free should not even own dogs in the first place and this should be a red flag. Although there are certain circumstances for this too. Some people can give a dog/pup for free for good, natural reasons. Not because they are the last of the litter and they can't find a good home for it. If they could not sell the pup, there is a reason why. Please, just do your homework! Don't expect to get a "free" puppy because nothing comes for free!

If you lived in Michigan I would take the male. With pit bulls it is scary to find a new home for them, because you never know what the new owners intentions are. I think a rescue group would be best for your dogs, they are experienced in finding GOOD homes for pit bulls, and they often do home checks to see what their living conditions are. And some of them even go back to check on the dog later to make sure the home is still a good fit. But you also have to be careful when finding a rescue group to place them in. Where I live, there are rescues specifically for pit bulls, and these are the best ones. But the Humane Society around here is also very good with pit bulls. But there are some shelters, like the Animal Control in my area that euthanize pit bulls as soon as they come in, because they feel they are 'too dangerous' to adopt out. So do some research on the different rescues in your area, talk to them, and make sure they will find your puppies the best home! Good luck, I'm sorry you can't keep your dogs.
