I find it strange how most doctors don't know about EMLA cream. I'm TERRIFIED of needles, probably more than even you are. But a family friend who is a doctor recommended this when I needed to get shots for college. It's a prescription lidocaine cream that you put on the injection site an hour before the procedure (I've done this for blood tests too). It numbs the area completely and is awesome (as far as having to go to the doctor can be awesome, lol). If you're really that terrified, ask your doctor about it... or tell him/her to look it up and prescribe it for you. It's the only way I've managed!! (I think I'm going to buy stock in it when I'm ready to get pregnant in a few years..... haha.)

I'd been a life-long needle phobe so I can totally relate to your dilemma.
When I went to get a blood test I asked the nurse to use a baby needle. The smallest size they've got. It still has a tiny little pinch but it's much more tolerable.
The best thing is to look away and take deep relaxing breaths. Focus on something else entirely. Maybe even bring a walkman and listen to music. I'd done that when I was younger.

I have the same problem...and I shouldn't be afraid of needles. I have to give myself shots every day and have for years. I think for me it is that I am not in control of that needle. I have managed to get a needle in with out it hurting...I don't have much confidence in others doing it. I have to agree with so many of the others tho on this one. Look away and talk about something beside what is going on. I have found that if I am talking, most of the time I don't even feel the needle go in.

I guess I would suggest that you just look the other way while they do it. It always seems way worse worrying about it than actually having it done. The last few times I've had a needle stuck in me, it didn't even hurt.

So, I only reread my answer and found out I gave the impression of an fool. Sorry. can i attempt lower back? in the adventure that your pals are bugging you approximately it, you're able to enable them to renowned which you're insulin based and that your existence must be in possibility in case you do no longer examine your blood sugar. i'd wish that they might incredibly see somewhat of blood and have you ever alive then no longer could see you checking your blood sugar and have your existence be in possibility. If people who are not conscious of your diabetes are those freaking out, they might no longer comprehend what you're doing. At my college, human beings would in all probability anticipate you're doing drugs. If somebody you will by no ability see lower back is cringing, it must be appropriate to easily fake you do no longer observe them. If somebody you will could be around is cringing, you ought to objective explaining to them which you're doing what your physique can not do. i wish this became into greater effective and much less stupid than my old answer...

Oh, i´m exactly the same. I never ever look, i always turn my head and keep talking to the nurse about whatever. Before i stand up, i always stomp my feet. I´m not sure how it works, but it was suggested by my therapist and it really works. Try it, and good luck!

Close your eyes, ask her NOT to talk and think about something else. Bring a book to look at with your other hand or something to concentrate on. I HATE WHEN I HAVE TO GO!!! Once I sat on my kids lap and made a joke of it and asked her when is she going to do it and BAM! I missed the whole thing!

You should not be because it really does not hurt..Remember I am twelve and I started to freak too. But then I it really did not hurt..It did as much as it would if you pinched yourself in that area of your arm.
