Don't buy more food than you can use, no matter how good a deal you think it is. It's NOT a deal if you end up eating too much or throwing it out!

Having 10 pounds of mayonnaise, rather than a small jar might make you feel you need to use more. Buying a case of soda means you always have it available, whereas a single 2 liter bottle might make you see the soda as an occasional treat, rather than an every day thing. If you have a package of 48 candy bars, rather than 3, I'd assume most people would reach for a candy bar, rather than fruit.

Very interesting question. I've debated this with friends before. It all comes down to psychology. I tend to believe that if you have more of anything available to you, you tend to be much less conservative. There is less pressure in your mind to control the amounts you will use. Many people I have spoken to have been able to lose weight by removing certain food from their homes, so the sheer presence of food is enough to tempt certain people into eating more or eating less healthy choices.

Being that I am a food addict, yes. I don't shop at those places because I have no will power when it comes to food. If its in my house, I will eat it so I shop at a regular supermarket and buy regular portions of food.

I shop at Costco, and I don't overeat. But if you're buying in bulk, it's best to have someone to help you eat it I guess, so that you don't have to worry about it going stale.

There is a recent study I heard of that says people who buy in bulk eat more after they've stocked up than those people shop normally.
Personally, those places scare me.

No, if you are conscious of what your eating then you can shop and buy whatever you want. For example say you buy a big bag of chips, you can break that big bag into small servings. It's all about will power and self control.

Funny question. Although we tend to over spend at those places, I would't say we over indulge for the bulge!! ha ha

No, overeating is a result of low or no will power. Just because food is there doesn't mean you have to eat it.
