If you get a small puppy like mine you woould probly want to get books on that dog before you get it. You would want a good vet and be prepared for things broken and torn. You will sometimes have to give the puppy disapline. You'll need food like soft for a puppy until there teeth grow in better but if there old get hard food. You'll need lots of chewy things for a puppy because they bite a lot when there puppies.Maybe doggie treats for when there good. Like if your going on a trip for a while there's a kennel or some close neighbors or friends. If niether work maybe you should wait to get a puppy or dog. You'll have to get pads for the dog and train them to be house broken. You can ask me anything else about anything and a new puppy. Hope this helps.

FIRST!!! check local shelters & adopt a lonely dog who needs a loving home.
Talk to a vet. to determine the best food for the size of dog you choose. Before bringing the dog home, go through the ENTIRE house & doggy proof it. Place electrical cords out of reach, be sure lower cabinets shut securely. Be sure ALL of your houseplants are NOT toxic to animals. In your yard, be sure there is a safe secure fence where the dog can play & potty without getting out or getting hurt. Again, check the plants to be sure they are also non-toxic to animals. No poisons are on the ground where the dog can get a hold of it. Be sure there is NO anti-freeze, oil or grease that the dog can get a hold of.
Be sure you have toys, treats (NO RAWHIDE), food & water bowls sized for your particular dog. A collar & leash, be sure that you get the dog licensed if required by your state. Be sure to have dog food on hand. Dog food should be good quality, no corn, cereals or other fillers. Better get a pooper scooper to clean up your yard. BEST ADVICE!!! since you are new at this, sign up for dog obedience classes. This will benefit you & the dog a great deal & help the two of you to bond. Have the dog thoroughly examined by a veterinarian, tested for heartworms IF they are a problem in your area. Vaccinate for rabies, distemper, parvo, etc. The vet will tell you what shots are required. He can also worm the dog & start it on a flea & tick prevention product. Set up an time to have the dog spayed or neutered & as a safety percaution, microchipped (if you can afford it).
Getting a new dog is expensive & animals are time consuming if you are to give them the time & attention they want & need. Be sure you have the time to devote to a new dog & the money to be sure that you can afford unexpected vet visits & yearly exams & vaccinations. Wormings every 3 to 6 months & fleas treatments (FRONTLINE PLUS is BEST). Get a brush & spend time each evening brushing your dog, this is relaxing for both of you & another great way to bond with the dog. It is also a great way for you to learn how your dog's body feels. That way if while you are brushing the dog & feel something odd or that was not there before, you will notice it. Take the dog for walks, socialize it well, with people & other dogs. Obedience classes will be great for this & dog parks also. Teach the dog manners. No barking! No jumping up on people, etc. Obedience class will also help with this.
Housebreaking? This is another excellent reson to get a dog from your local shelter. You can get one that is already housebroken, since you are sooooo new at this. It will be less stressful for you & the dog. Besides, you will be saving a life!!!
It might seem a bit overwhelming at first, but just REMEMBER!!! your veterinarian & your obedience instructor will be excellent sources of help & information for you.
Good Luck!!!

First of all you have to by some doggy food, which dog food depends on which dog you get. And A leash and coller. And you know what its to much too explain it would take awhile. If you go to a local vet they will tell you every thing. Or something way cheaper, go to a local pet store and they have books on which dog, and how to take care of it, you know for beginers.Good luck with your new puppy!

First of all, make sure you have the time to take care of the dogs needs, one of the biggest mistakes of dog owners to be is the amount of time a dog takes out of your daily schedule, the one thing all dogs need is interaction with humans, other than that food dish, water dish, chew toys as all puppies chew on things, mostly things you dont want them to, just have fun with the pet and you will feel your way to happy pet ownership

Well, finding a puppy would be number one. But you need to know that VET care for animals are expensive. You'll need puppy pads, a crate, food, lots of chew toys. Food and water bowls. collar and leash. These are all things that you need when or prior to getting a puppy.

You will probably need to get puppy food, a water bowl, a doggie bed. You should also need to find time to play with him/her. Puppies usually need a lot of exercise to get rid of some of that energy. Otherwise, be prepared to find chewed up stuff when you get home.

Be sure you have the time to spend with the puppy.
Get a book on the "basics" of training dogs.
Be willing to give the dog love and attention and not be abusive.
Good luck!

Go read a book on the subject! There is to much for you to know for us to tell you on here! If you are going to bring a baby in your home, you need a book so you know how to raise it properly anyway!! If you don't have enough money to take it to the vet when it needs to go or if there is an emergency, THEN DON'T GET A PUPPY!!!! It doesn't need to suffer because of you being selfish and bringing a puppy home you can't afford!!!
