It's a pet thing, my cat chews on my pencils (and everything else around the house). But if she literally ate the whole thing, get her to the vet's office immediately. That lead poisoning can make her very ill, or possibly kill her. When you see her chewing on your pencils, take it away from her, and tell her that your pencil is not one of her chew toys (pets can understand the human language, trust me). Also try just giving her one tap on the backside (not to hurt her, but to give her the message that she's doing something wrong). Good luck with your situation.

Puppies will try to chew anything up. They're like human babies--whatever they see will go in their mouths. When she was a puppie, our dog chewed up an ink pen (on the living room carpet, no less) and a cigarette lighter (she got a mouthful of butane, so she's terrified of them now). She grew out of it, for the most part. She will occasionally still chew up paper to punish us if she thinks we've been gone too long, but that's about it.

Most dogs are natural chewers. Puppies especially like to chew when they are teething. My dog, a 2 year old Australian Sheperd loves to chew pencils! I am constantly on my kids to keep them out of reach as Finnegan destroys them and I find pieces of them all over the floor. Keep in mind, he gets exercise, and has plenty of toys, but for some reason, he is drawn to them as well. My suggestion, just do your best to keep them out of reach.
