it's not just here...it's everywhere. it's just because we've been socially conditioned that beauty=thin, slim, no body fat women. other countries glorify being overweight.

If you don't like the truth, don't ask.
Some people do have medical reasons for their weight issues, and I do feel bad for these people. Unfortunately, it has been proven time and time again that people who are overweight due to medical reasons are an extreme minority. Most overweight people are that way because of their own behaviors, and I do not at all feel bad for them! Lack of self control is not a medical issue!
I think rude and disgusting behavior is to let yourself go to the point where your weight now makes living much more difficult and some things become nearly impossible to do, so you expect others to make special accommodations in order to make you feel capable like everyone else.
People with Med conditions should get special treatment, anyone else should get used to the fact that they did it to themselves and deal with the consequences of their actions and behaviors.

Well, this is my first response to a question, as i am new to the site. But i agree, not all who are overweight are lazy. Weight issues can be caused by many factors, social life, depression, anxiety, as well as just plain not eating right.
Most people tend to generalize that "fat" people are lazy, and don't take the time to try to figure out why they are supposedly "fat."
I hope people stop answering this way, because i too think its disrespectful and incorrect.

here's the truth --
arguing with someone online is like running in the special olympics.
Even if you win, you're still retarded.
Yes, I know, that's insensitive, and I apologize, but it's the truth.
Ignore people that go out of their way to make your day miserable. They are poor, shallow souls with no real joy in their lives. They need attention, that's why they do it.
I have been teaching my kids for a few years now, the youngest 2 of the 3 I have (ages 4 and 6) when someone teases you or bothers you, or is trying on purpose to bait you by being rude or crass, look them right in the eye and say "Oh, be quiet." - then ignore them. At 4 and 6, they've got a good grasp on it. They also recognize that if someone says "Oh, be quiet" to them, they are out of line.

Some of it has to do with society as a whole thinking that weight problems are just a matter of will power.
Some people come on here and say rude things because they are anonymous. These same people wouldn't have the guts to say those rude comments to a person's face.
And Some people just ask really, really, stupid questions.

Some people are easy prey. I know people give overweight people a hard time but they are also mean to other types, people who work nights and sleep days get called lazy too, like we should be able to work all night and stay up all day! Any one who has been drinking is also an easy target, and so are people who are poor, or less than brilliant. Conversely it is also socially acceptable to make fun of smart people.

Some people just have no life. Other people have always had a perfect little life and can't even relate and are too bitchy(excuse my french) to even try to. Either way, those answers should be ignored. And the people writing that stuff should be pitied because they aren't going to get too far in life with that attitude and are going to end up miserable.

statistically the percentage of the population with genetic disorders, etc. that cause severe weight gain are very low. that being said the majority of the people with weight problems have caused them problem themselves. with the Information Age and now the Internet there really isn't any reason for anyone to not know the dangers of eating an unhealthy diet and following a sedentary lifestyle. so for the most part people are not sympathetic to those with weight problems, regardless of the underlying causes...

A lot of people do it to make themselves feel better. Making fun of imperfections in other people makes them feel less insecure about other things. And I agree that not everyone who is overweight is lazy. For a lot of people it's just how they're built. It's genetics and they can't help it.

Many people have low self esteem and it feels good for them to cut someone else down. I don't know how to avoid having it make you feel bad. sorry. I only have an answer for the first part. I get a lot of that now too. I used to be a bean pole. I think your personality would make up for it. I'm working on that part. :D

Often people make fun of what they don't understand. If you have never been overweight you may feel it is amusing because you have never known the pain one goes through being overweight.
